“All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but the motives are weighed by the Lord.” Proverbs 16:2
A motive is an underlying reason for any action that we do. Be it good or bad it all originates from the motive hidden inside. According to the above read verse, it says what we see openly that looks right before us, may not be right before God. Our God is not interested in our outward performances but He evaluates our motives.
Before we proceed with our actions before God, we need to question and evaluate our motives and intentions behind our actions. Our desire is not to satisfy our own selves but to please God. We shouldn’t trust in our feelings and in our circumstances; because our feelings will betray us and our emotions and circumstances will lie to us. And the only way to find stability and to examine ourselves is to find truth in the Word of God that supersedes our feelings. The Bible says that the human heart is very deceitful. We can easily fool ourselves about our own motives. We might even pretend that we are choosing certain actions or decisions for God/for the benefit of others, but when in reality we might have selfish reasons behind. Our God is not fooled by our selfishness and He is the discerner of our thoughts and intents of our heart.
We can keep our motives pure and acceptable to God, only by continuously surrendering every part of our hearts to the control of the Holy Spirit. According to Galatians 5, we can operate from pure motives only when we walk in the Spirit; because our flesh will constantly clamour to exalt itself, but the Holy Spirit leads us to please God.
Let us all submit our motives to God and bring our heart out to Him, for He sees what no one else sees. In first Corinthians 4:5, we read that, when Jesus comes again, “He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.” Amen!

Blessed !!!
