THE ARMOR OF GOD

 “Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11

            We Christians, are involved in a constant battlefield where we fight against the opposing evil spirit. Jesus Christ defeated Satan completely on the cross and through His resurrection. We as representatives of Christ, have the responsibility to demonstrate the victory which Jesus has already won. 

           As we live in this evil dominating world, we are in this life-and-death struggle with evil forces; hence it is necessary for us to put on the full armor of God to overcome this world. We needn’t be scared or discouraged of the devil’s devices and his power; we are not alone in this battle. Our God the Sovereign, is with us and He helps us overcome. Paul in the same chapter writes again, “Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.” The evil day doesn’t denote a particular ‘day’, but our daily struggles when our faith is challenged, when our obedience to God is tested, when our patience faints and when pride takes control of our behavior. Every Christian goes through these situations. These are our battles. It is for this evil day, we need to be prepared to stand firm in Christ. 

         Paul lists six pieces of equipments and describes the armor of God which protects us from the head to toe:

First, the girdle of TRUTH

Second, the breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS 

Third, the shoes of the PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL 

Fourth, the shield of FAITH

Fifth, the helmet of SALVATION 

And sixth, the sword of the SPIRIT.

      As we face our battles and challenges everyday, let us make it a point to spend the early hours of the day in God’s presence, for only He can equip us with these virtues to face the day. Let the whole armor of God be our protection throughout our life in this evil world. Amen!
