“Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; ... Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:17,18.
In today’s fast growing world, everything seems to be sparkling and fashionable. Every person we meet, look so orderly and perfect. But that’s just on the outside. Broken hearts are all around us. In fact, pain is something that we all have in common. No one can erase it from their lives, instead we try and cope up with it and learn to face it. One such person who endured through a lot of pain and disasters is, Job. His character amazes us even today.
We often tend to think that disastrous things happen only to the wicked. But Job was a ‘blameless, upright and God fearing man’, yet he received a whip of suffering and pain. He had a series of tragedies within minutes. We cannot imagine such situations crashing on us, all at once. But Job’s response was stunning; he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return. The Lord gave and the Lord took away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” What a faith he had in God!
We too go through difficult situations in our lives, when no one can understand the pain inside of us. In our darkest times, do we still have faith in God and bless His name and praise His glory? From Job’s life we learn that no matter how our life turns, our trust and faith in God will restore us. Sufferings and pain are permitted in our lives to deepen our faith in Christ, to glorify God and to humble ourselves in obedience to our Lord. Let us not worry or grumble over our situations, but put our faith and trust in God and choose to rejoice in God, even when everything in life goes wrong; for He is a faithful God and our Redeemer.
