HIS FORGIVENESS

“But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.” Psalm 130:4

We all have sinned against men and God, and have been in situations desiring forgiveness. There also have been situations in our lives where someone sought forgiveness from us. Forgiveness is so powerful. Nelson Mandela quoted, ‘Forgiveness liberates the soul, hence it is a powerful weapon.’

Our God is a forgiving God. The Bible says that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.(Hebrews 9:22) Jesus Christ, the only sinless One, shed His blood dying on the cross for our salvation and forgiveness. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we have the assurance of forgiveness. In Psalm 130 we read that there is forgiveness with God, that He may be feared. One of the greatest purpose of God’s forgiveness is to create in us a sense of reverence and gratitude towards Him. Forgiveness doesn’t give us an excuse to sin again. Rather, it should stir our hearts with the fear of the Lord.

Our God is to be feared not only for His great righteous judgment, but also for His greatest love in forgiving. He died on the cross and bought salvation and forgiveness not when we sought after Him, but when we were still sinners. His love is majestic and is to be feared. God’s forgiveness covers all our iniquities with His love, so that we could have a relationship with Him. When we take a moment and think of His forgiveness in our lives, we could only stand in awe and tremble of His love. He is worthy to be feared! The fear of the Lord is to give Him all the reverence and honor and glory, and to live in holiness with the help of the Holy Spirit. Let the fear of the Lord be in our hearts. Amen!
