“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.” Titus 2:11
Grace is a gift from God to mankind- an unmerited favor for the undeserved and unworthy. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. In today’s Christianity it’s all about grace. Yes, we stand today by the grace of God, not by ourselves. Only by grace we can approach God’s throne with confidence; for our righteousness is as filthy rags. As ‘grace’ is given freely unto us, it is not to be taken casually. It costs the life of Jesus Christ. It’s indeed free, but not cheap!
As we live in grace period, often as humans we tend to take things for granted. But the grace was given to us not to lead a comfortable life, but as an aid to live a holy life. In Titus 2:12 we read, Grace teaches us to say ‘no’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. But sadly, churches and Christian families today have drawn worldly pleasures into their lives and claim grace. Grace isn’t living in luxury. When God says, “My grace is sufficient for you” it means that all we need is only God’s grace and nothing else. Only when we completely rely on God, He can work His purpose in our lives. Grace calls us to a sacrificial living. Are we ready to live in grace yet?
Our God is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness; but at the same time our God is a consuming fire and a HOLY God. He is Holy in every attribute. God commanded His people, “Be ye holy, for I am holy.” With our sinful nature we cannot live a holy life pleasing to God. Here is where God’s grace justifies us and gives us redemption. According to Paul, grace reigns through righteousness to bring us eternal life. Let us not take grace for granted, but consider it as a divine gift operating in our lives leading to holiness. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with our spirit. Amen!
