“My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your Word.” Psalm119:25
We all have troubles detaching ourselves from the bondage of earthly things. Earthly things are those that do not pertain to God or His kingdom. We have been birthed into this sinful world and our soul adheres firmly to it and cannot be easily separated from the things of this earth. Sin drags us down; and it weighs on us. With our own strength we cannot rise and unburden ourselves.
The psalmist says, ‘My soul clings to dust.’ Dust denotes our fallen state. But we can find delight in God through His Word. The verse says, ‘Revive me according to Your Word’. The psalmist cries to the Lord for help, for only God’s Word can revive and refresh us and deliver us from all strongholds. God’s Word imparts us faith which gives spiritual birth to our soul. When God formed man, He made him from the dust. And when God breathed His breath of life into that dust, he became a living creature. God’s breath is life! In the New Testament we read that all the Scriptures are God breathed. When we read the Word of God and meditate upon it, we can sense the gentle breeze of His breath of life. It refreshes us and revives our fainting soul and gives eternal life.
God calls us to live a life of freedom. And freedom is found in Jesus Christ, the Living Word. Jesus through His resurrection gives us the vigor and strength to break every bonds that entangles us to this world. God’s Word and His promises in our lives are the lifeline that we can hold onto. He does according to His Word. Let us continue to abide in the Word of God that revives us. Amen!
