EXPECTATIONS

“If you knew the gift of God and Who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.” John 4:10

An expectation is a strong belief or hope that something we desire would happen. We all have a lot of expectations in our lives- in our jobs, finances, relationships, social status, and so on. Not all our expectations are met. Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. But one thing is important; we need to place our expectations in the right place.

Our God the Almighty, is able not only to grant our desires but to exceed our expectations. Isaiah 55:8,9 says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts”. Our God always gives us the best. What is required from us is to completely trust and rely on Him, and not acting according to our understanding. For instance, in the book of Acts we see a lame man was carried to the gate of the temple so that he could beg gifts for his needs. While Peter and John were making their way up into the temple, the lame man begged them for gifts with expectation. What gifts he would have expected?- could be some money or food or clothes. But they said they had no silver or gold to offer him, no material things, but healing in the name of Jesus Christ. They healed him and immediately the man stood and began to walk and dance and praise God; which is beyond his expectations.

Likewise, we may expect certain things for our daily lives. But God’s plan and purpose in our lives is unimaginable; it’s eternal. As it is written in 1 Corinthians 2:9, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”  All we need to do is to obey His commandments with reverence, worship Him with love and trust Him like there’s nothing left. Let us allow God in our lives, so that He can work wondrous things through us. Amen!
