“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” Deuteronomy 30:19
God is sovereign and He created the heavens and the earth, all living creatures and mankind according to His will. He created man in His Own likeness and ordered his ways. Man is an instrument of God; and all authority and ownership belongs to Him. Yet, our God has given him the choices and the liberty or freedom to choose what he desires. Our God is so gentle that He doesn’t force anyone, but expects and delights in our willful submission to His power and might.
In the Old Testament, we see numerous examples of people choosing between life and death, freedom and captivity. In those days, when the Israelites did not obey the commandments of God and turned their ways away from Him, they were defeated and perished in other lands; but those who earnestly sought the Lord, were saved and preserved and were lifted high. God honors those who honor Him. From Deuteronomy 28-30, we see the list of blessings on obedience and curses on disobedience, God has given to His people and also the choice to choose between the life or death. It is still an offer today. Those who choose to trust in the Lord and obey His commandments and to love Him wholeheartedly, chooses life and unconditional blessings of God. But those who reject the free gift of salvation and turn their ways away from Him, brings upon themselves the curse of the law, and eternal separation from God - death.
Today, the world may seem to be more enjoyable and pleasing to our sight, that we might be drawn away from the presence of the Lord. But this is not our destination. We are transient and the eternity awaits! Matthew 7:13,14 Jesus says, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” It is not the will of God for anyone to perish, but to have eternal life. ‘Life and good’ and ‘Death and evil’ are set before us, and the choice is ours! Let us choose LIFE which demands,
To love the Lord our God
To obey His voice
To cling onto His will
To walk in His ways and
To keep His commandments and statutes
for, He is our life and the length of our days; all glory and honor belongs to Him.
