Why is the Word of God compared to a seed?

Often we see that the Word of God is compared to a seed. Like a seed which is sown and nourished with required supplements in order to grow a fruitful plant, so is the Word of God, which when sown in our hearts and minds, will bring forth a fruitful Christian life in us. A life is embedded in a seed and so is our eternity in the Word of God.

In the book of Matthew, Jesus speaks of the parable of the sower. He spoke many things saying,  “Behold, a sower went out to sow; and as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root-they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and chocked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” Jesus then explains the parable ending that he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the Word and understands it, who indeed bears fruits.

Like the ground is prepared and seed sown and nourished with all care, let our hearts hunger and minds get tuned to receive the incorruptible, indestructible, everliving seed of the Word of God; so that our life turns out to be bearing good fruits of the Spirit.
