SPIRITUALLY AWAKE

Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what hour your Lord is coming.” -Matthew 24:42

Jesus Christ is coming very very soon. The birth of Jesus is not a story, likewise the secret coming of Him is not just a belief; it’s the truth! This truth gives us hope and comfort, and adds meaning to our Christian life. The resurrection of Jesus Christ, is also our victory over the grave. He who believes in Christ, will live(eternity) even if he dies. Romans 6:5 says, “For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection.”

We are saved by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ and are incorporated in the body of Christ. Therefore, through salvation we are united in Christ, and through baptism we are united in the likeness of His death. This doesn’t end with it, but we need to strive to remain and live in this unity with the help of the Holy Spirit. In the parable of the ten virgins, we read that the five of them, took the coming of the bridegroom seriously and were ready to welcome Him at all cost; but the other five were termed foolish, because they didn’t know the importance of their purpose and were careless without having what they needed the most. At an unexpected time, the bridegroom arrived and the foolish ones were hustling and trying to do their last minute chores, but they failed. It was too late for their realization. The door was shut. Whereas, the wise virgins, who were awake and ready with their lamps burning with oil, were taken in to the royal banquet.

Revelation 16:15 states, “Behold, I am coming as a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake, and keeps his garments on..” Staying awake means to be spiritually alert and alive; to stay in the calling of God. We need to keep our lamps burning with the Spirit of God, with all righteousness and obedience; and  be clothed with salvation and holiness - in His likeness. In these last days, let us not slip into the pleasures of this world and be lukewarm, but cling onto our calling and purpose in Christ Jesus and be watchful of the signs of His coming and be spiritually awake, for we do not know His time!

“Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”- Luke 21:36
