HUMBLE LOVE

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:10

According to Proverbs 22:4, True humility and the fear of the Lord, leads to riches, honor and long life. Humility is valuing others above ourselves; not looking onto our own interests, but in the goodwill of others. God delights in the humble and teaches His ways to them; His favor is upon those, who humble themselves before God and man. Humility is the most important quality in life, for without it we cannot love truly.

Jesus is the ultimate example of humility. Philippians 2:5 onwards states, ‘ In your relationships with one another, have the same mentality as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant....He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.’ Jesus exhibited His love for humanity, choosing to clothe Himself with all humility, until His death. This is the greatest humility of all.

We are called to be the ‘imitators’ of Christ. In this competitive world, everyone competes to be  better than the other. People are racing at an extraordinary pace. Pride has consumed the society; man boasts of his education, jobs, influences, money, caste and what not. But we, people of God, should not fall for it, but constantly remind ourselves, that, nothing of this world will accompany us to eternity. Paul says, “For Christ’s sake I have lost everything and considered them rubbish..” This must be our attitude. All that we have today, is by the grace of God. In Matthew 23:11, Jesus says, “But he who is the greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Aiming for humility in this selfish world isn’t easy. But as we seek God’s help and rest in His presence, He will strengthen and equip us to follow Him. May God be magnified in our lives. Amen!
