“And after your season of suffering, God in all His grace will restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” 1 Peter 5:10
Restoration is defined as the act of returning or renewing something, to it’s former original state. But with God, our restoration is not only coming back in alignment with Him, but also being established in a way, better than we ever existed. We all go through difficult times in our lives with hopeless situations, where our future might seem to dwindle; but as believers, we ought to adhere to God’s promises in our lives. Let our hearts, not be troubled during hardships; instead grow deeper in faith believing: ‘the darkness of the night, fades away with the bright and morning star’.
The Scripture in the book of Joel states, “So, I will restore to you the years, that the swarming locust has eaten, ...you shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, And praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you.” The salvation of God, is given to us, strangers, as a free gift. But to remain in the calling and purpose, is a choice to be made by us. Our God is the ‘God of Holiness’, and He will never tolerate evil thoughts and deeds. Many a times, we derail from our calling and end up in suffering. But, His grace and mercy pursues and leads us to repentance and restores us to the divine calling. This is a restoration in abundance!
God’s restoration is all about coming back to Him, getting right with Him, fulfilling His will and delighting in His presence all the days of our lives. We see in the book of Jonah, God relented from the disaster that He set against the people of Nineveh, as they repented and turned away from their wickedness; for our God is “a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness, One who relents from doing harm.” Therefore now, let us examine ourselves, and cast away those, that displeases God; so that He restores and equips us to do His perfect will. Our ‘season of suffering’ will then be restored in Christ as the ‘season of Refreshment.’
