“The stone which the builders rejected, has become the chief Cornerstone.” Psalm 118:22
In an architectural point of view, a cornerstone is traditionally the first stone laid in construction. It provides the structural reference for the other stones to be laid. If the cornerstone was laid properly, the builders are assured of the other corners and angles of the building. In ancient days, the entire building rested on the cornerstone.
Likewise, to have a strong and steady spiritual life, we need an assured cornerstone. The word of God, in the book of Isaiah 28:16 says “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed; He who believes in it will not be disturbed.” Jesus Christ is our cornerstone, in Whom, we are built together for a dwelling place of God. God chose each one of us, as stones, to build His Heavenly Kingdom, Jesus being the cornerstone. When our lives, are in reference to His will, our divine purpose can be fulfilled. Jesus, through His death and resurrection, laid us a foundation of faith; and when we believe in Him, we shall prosper.
Building our lives in ‘Christ the cornerstone’, comes with, hearing the word of God and cultivating a deeper relationship with Him. The more we are constructed on Him, the more we endure! We may face rejections in this world. (Jesus Himself was rejected by His own people) But according to 1 Peter 2:4-10, we are precious living stones, a chosen generation, His special people - being built up as a spiritual house, for a Holy Priesthood. What a great calling and purpose we hold! Let us be vigilant to keep Christ as our chief Cornerstone and reference in all our endeavors. He has set a great example for us to follow. May God’s will be done in our lives, for His glory. Amen!
