“To all who mourn .., He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair..” Isaiah 61:3.
Glory be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”-John 3:16. Once, we were strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God; but now, we have been brought near Him, by the blood of Christ. Our salvation is not a reward for our good deeds, but by the demonstration of God’s love through the cross, while we were still sinners. His love for us has turned our ashes into beauty!
The word ‘ashes’ is often referred to ‘death’ or ‘repentance’. Spiritually, the Bible says that every single person born into this world, is born into sin’s captivity. The chains of sin and bondages of death, enslaves him. But we, who believe in Him, are truly blessed beyond the curse, for Jesus paid the price and redeemed us with His blood; and through resurrection, He overcame the snares of death. Now, we have hope and freedom; grace and mercy; and forgiveness to be found in Christ.
We can therefore, come boldly before the cross of Calvary, and trade our ashes, for the beauty in Christ. Jesus, who knew no sin, became a sinner on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God; He was wounded and bruised, and by His stripes we are healed; He was cursed, so we shall inherit the supreme blessings of God; He was humiliated, so that we could lift up our eyes and see the Glory of God. What a sacrifice of Christ! May we live a life, manifesting the goodness of our God and honoring His love and sacrifice. Amen!
